Asakusa Sensouji on a Sunday

After being so long in Japan, I usually don't go to must-see tourist spots like Asakusa much. I think the lasttime I was there was almost 2 years ago. Anyway, I revisited Asakusa's Sensouji again last Sunday. Here are some photos.

As expected, on Sundays it will always be crowded especially in front of the Kaminari-Mon (Lightning Gate )

The street heading to the main temple.

Unfortunately, the main temple is under maintainance and is covered with this huge sheet with illustration of a dragon. Simply beautiful for something under construction.

Do check out more photos here.

Shopping: New shopping outlet in Tokyo

For all you shopping lovers, there's a new shopping outlet and it's the the first outlet in Tokyo just opened mid December last year. It is located at Venus Fort in Odaiba, so the location is very central and easily accessible when compared to other outlets.

Among the shops listed in this outlet.

Venus Fort itself is a very interesting places to visit. Inside, it has it's own unique atmosphere and literally has its own sky. You cannot tell whether it's day or night inside here.

Right at the heart of Venus Fort, there is a huge fountain. A must-see spot.

You can find more info on how to get to Venus Fort here.

Otorii of Miyajima (Hiroshima)

Among the places I would like to visit again in Japan would be Miyajima in Hiroshima. The reason is shown in the photo below.

It's the Otorii (big gate) of Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima Island. It is one of the famous three sceneries of Japan. Also listed as UNESCO world heritage site, it is one of biggest tourist attraction in Hiroshima.

I was there in November of 2006 where I took this snapshot with my handphone. Yet the contrast of the gate and the sky is perfect. Took a 2 hours flight from Haneda airport, Tokyo. Of course you can get to Hiroshima by Shinkansen too. The island is also famous for oysters. You can have delicious fresh oysters there.

Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo

As I was digging around my collection of photos, I found this one.

It's a shot of Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo situated in Roppongi. Don't miss the King Kong climbing at the side. It's the first Hard Rock Cafe in Tokyo since 1983. However there's another one in Ueno station. In total, there are 8 Hard Rock Cafes in Japan.

I celebrated my birthday once there and got the complementary set of birthday cake and wine. I know there area lot of Hard Rock Cafe fans out there, so check this one out when you're around the neighborhood.

Yokohama: Osanbashi terminal

I wrote a little about Yokohama previously. Here's a little bit on Osanbashi.

Osanbashi is the international passenger ship terminal in Yokohama. You can take cruise tours here going around the pacific ocean or around the world. It has a long pier which stretches out into the bay.

The top deck is a popular spot in Yokohama, where people hang out to enjoy the sea breeze and fine weather. The wavy wooden design of this deck is very unique, shaped like a whale's back.

Sunset time is also beautiful from this deck. Here's a silhouette view of the Landmark Tower seen from here.

You can read more about Osanbashi here.
