Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo

As I was digging around my collection of photos, I found this one.

It's a shot of Hard Rock Cafe Tokyo situated in Roppongi. Don't miss the King Kong climbing at the side. It's the first Hard Rock Cafe in Tokyo since 1983. However there's another one in Ueno station. In total, there are 8 Hard Rock Cafes in Japan.

I celebrated my birthday once there and got the complementary set of birthday cake and wine. I know there area lot of Hard Rock Cafe fans out there, so check this one out when you're around the neighborhood.

Sparkling strawberry KitKat

Here's another one of my chocolate review. This time it's "Sparkling Strawberry KitKat". Just like the Ginger Ale KitKat I talked about previously, this one also has that sparkling drink sort of taste.

Sparkling strawberry KitKat

Since it's the season for strawberry, you can tell the influx of strawberry related chocolates and snacks in the supermarket.

Sparkling strawberry KitKat

I'm fascinated with the variations of KitKat that Nestle made so far. I will keep documenting all the KitKats I've seen so far.

Sumo wrestler TV ad

This is one of my favorite ad. A TV ad from Fuji Xerox featuring Yokozuna Hakuho. Check it out.

It's very funny. The way Hakuho looks at the woman is very cute.

A little info on Hakuho. He's a Mongolian, 1.93 meters tall and weight at 153kg. Currently there are only two Yokozuna, he and Asashoryu (also Mongolian). He won several sumo championships, however he lost to Asashoryu in the 1st championship this year.

Yokohama: Osanbashi terminal

I wrote a little about Yokohama previously. Here's a little bit on Osanbashi.

Osanbashi is the international passenger ship terminal in Yokohama. You can take cruise tours here going around the pacific ocean or around the world. It has a long pier which stretches out into the bay.

The top deck is a popular spot in Yokohama, where people hang out to enjoy the sea breeze and fine weather. The wavy wooden design of this deck is very unique, shaped like a whale's back.

Sunset time is also beautiful from this deck. Here's a silhouette view of the Landmark Tower seen from here.

You can read more about Osanbashi here.

Nengajou lucky draw results

The results of the nengajou lucky draw have been announced today (read here for info on nengajou). Unfortunately, I was not even close to getting something for this year.

You can check the six digits printed on the bottom right of your nengajou. The results of the lucky draw is available here.

If your number is 975424, then you'll be getting the grand prize. Chance is one to a million. However I was aiming for the 4th prize (1 in 50 chances) where the prizes are special edition postage stamps. Looks like I have to try again next time.

Big Chocolate Dorayaki

This is what I had for tea break today. A slightly bigger than normal sized Chocolate Dorayaki.

Because it's a chocolate Dorayaki, the inside is filled with chocolate instead of the sweetened red bean paste. Everything else is the same.

Dorayaki is made famous by Doraemon being his favorite food. Just like this one, there are many variations ofDorayaki with different fillings such as fruit jams, green tea cream and chestnut.

Masuzushi from Toyama

Masuzushi is a special type of sushi you can find in Japan. However it's not like the common sushi, it's a type of Oshizushi (pressed sushi). This particular one is from Toyama prefecture (and Toyama is famous for Masuzushi).

This one is packed in a round wooden container.

Inside, the sushi is wrapped with Sasa leaves. I got this one upside down, the fish should be on top of the rice. This one uses Sakuramasu fish (trout).

Nevertheless, you can see that it is so tightly pressed that it looks like a cake. Oshizushi lasts for 3 to 4 days which is a lot longer than any typical sushi. Instead of Sakuramasu, there are also variations using Aji fish (mackerel).

Durian Cider drink

Here's another weird one I discovered recently. A Durian cider drink...

You hardly can find shops selling Durians in Japan but Durian cider? It makes me so curious that just have to try one.

The label at the back warns of the Durian smell so that Japanese would not panic.

Once I got the cap off, I can instantly smell Durian although it's just a weak smell. However doesn't taste so much like Durian. I guess it's just a smelly drink.

Takoyaki Mayo-Cheese

As days are cold, it's natural to look for something hot and delicious when you're outside. That's what I was doing yesterday when I found this one. It's Takoyaki with cheese and mayonnaise. Yes, cheese!

I would normally go for the normal traditional flavored Takoyaki (I wrote about Takoyaki here previously), but I guess I give something different a try. Surprisingly, cheese and Takoyaki blend well together. Mayonnaise just made it perfect.

Will it snow today?

The news says it might snow today in Tokyo. If it snows, it will be the 1st snow for Tokyo this winter. Looking out my window, it's very foggy outside now. This is the weather forecast at Yahoo Japan.

1st-snow-2010

Most part of Kanto region will be expecting snow in the afternoon. However, There's only an umbrella mark over Tokyo. The forecasted high and low temperatures in Tokyo is 8 and 4 degrees C so i guess it's a little warm for snow. Maybe the nothern part of Tokyo will get a bit of snow.

If you're going outside today, prepare for the snow (or rain at least).

There will be a ceremony ("seijinshiki") in every town through out the country.I wrote about this before here. If you're in Japan and happened to use google search this morning, you'll notice google did something to celebrate today. The logo was changed.

Coming-of-age

There's the number 20 and a girl wearing the "Furisoude Kimono". This logo cannot be seen on the English goofle page so go to www.google.co.jp instead.
